I Chronicles 14-16Romans 1Psalms 118Proverbs 25

I Chronicles 14

1Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and masons, and carpenters, to build him a house.

2David perceived that the Lord had established him king over Israel; for his kingdom was exalted on high, for his people Israel's sake.

3David took more wives at Jerusalem; and David became the father of more sons and daughters.

4These are the names of the children whom he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,

5and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpelet,

6and Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

7and Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphelet.

8When the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David: and David heard of it, and went out against them.

9Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.

10David inquired of God, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?" The Lord said to him, "Go up; for I will deliver them into your hand."

11So they came up to Baal Perazim, and David struck them there; and David said, God has broken my enemies by my hand, like the breach of waters. Therefore they called the name of that place Baal Perazim.

12They left their gods there; and David gave commandment, and they were burned with fire.

13The Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley.

14David inquired again of God; and God said to him, "You shall not go up after them. Turn away from them, and come on them over against the mulberry trees.

15It shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then you shall go out to battle; for God has gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines."

16David did as God commanded him: and they struck the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.

17The fame of David went out into all lands; and the Lord brought the fear of him on all nations.

I Chronicles 15

1David made him houses in the city of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent.

2Then David said, "No one ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites. For the Lord has chosen them to carry the ark of God, and to minister to him forever."

3David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the Lord to its place, which he had prepared for it.

4David gathered together the sons of Aaron, and the Levites:

5of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief, and his brothers one hundred twenty;

6of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, and his brothers two hundred twenty;

7of the sons of Gershom, Joel the chief, and his brothers one hundred thirty;

8of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, and his brothers two hundred;

9of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief, and his brothers eighty;

10of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, and his brothers one hundred twelve.

11David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, and Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminadab,

12and said to them, "You are the heads of the fathers' households of the Levites. Sanctify yourselves, both you and your brothers, that you may bring up the ark of the Lord, the God of Israel, to the place that I have prepared for it.

13For because you did not carry it at first, the Lord our God made an outbreak against us, because we did not seek him according to the ordinance."

14So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the Lord, the God of Israel.

15The children of the Levites bore the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of the Lord.

16David spoke to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brothers the singers, with instruments of music, stringed instruments and harps and cymbals, sounding aloud and lifting up the voice with joy.

17So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brothers, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brothers, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;

18and with them their brothers of the second degree, Zechariah, Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, Eliab, and Benaiah, and Maaseiah, and Mattithiah, and Eliphelehu, and Mikneiah, and Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, the doorkeepers.

19So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were given cymbals of brass to sound aloud;

20and Zechariah, and Aziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with stringed instruments set to Alamoth;

21and Mattithiah, and Eliphelehu, and Mikneiah, and Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps tuned to the eight-stringed lyre, to lead.

22Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was over the song: he instructed about the song, because he was skillful.

23Berechiah and Elkanah were doorkeepers for the ark.

24Shebaniah, and Joshaphat, and Nethanel, and Amasai, and Zechariah, and Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, blew the trumpets before the ark of God: and Obed-Edom and Jehiah were doorkeepers for the ark.

25So David, and the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the house of Obed-Edom with joy.

26It happened, when God helped the Levites who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, that they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.

27David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites who bore the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the song with the singers: and David had on him an ephod of linen.

28Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, sounding aloud with stringed instruments and harps.

29It happened, as the ark of the covenant of the Lord came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out at the window, and saw king David dancing and playing; and she despised him in her heart.

I Chronicles 16

1They brought in the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.

2When David had made an end of offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord.

3He dealt to everyone of Israel, both man and woman, to every one a loaf of bread, and a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins.

4He appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord, and to celebrate and to thank and praise the Lord, the God of Israel:

5Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, with stringed instruments and with harps; and Asaph with cymbals, sounding aloud;

6and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually, before the ark of the covenant of God.

7Then on that day David first ordained to give thanks to the Lord, by the hand of Asaph and his brothers.

8Oh give thanks to the Lord. Call on his name. Make his doings known among the peoples.

9Sing to him. Sing praises to him. Tell of all his marvelous works.

10Glory in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek the Lord rejoice.

11Seek the Lord and his strength. Seek his face forever more.

12Remember his marvelous works that he has done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth,

13you seed of Israel his servant, you children of Jacob, his chosen ones.

14He is the Lord our God. His judgments are in all the earth.

15Remember his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations,

16the covenant which he made with Abraham, his oath to Isaac.

17He confirmed the same to Jacob for a statute, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant,

18saying, "I will give you the land of Canaan, The lot of your inheritance,"

19when you were but a few men in number, yes, very few, and foreigners were in it.

20They went about from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people.

21He allowed no man to do them wrong. Yes, he reproved kings for their sakes,

22"Do not touch my anointed ones! Do my prophets no harm!"

23Sing to the Lord, all the earth! Display his salvation from day to day.

24Declare his glory among the nations, and his marvelous works among all the peoples.

25For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised. He also is to be feared above all gods.

26For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.

27Honor and majesty are before him. Strength and gladness are in his place.

28Ascribe to the Lord, you relatives of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength!

29Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to his name. Bring an offering, and come before him. Worship the Lord in holy array.

30Tremble before him, all the earth. The world also is established that it can't be moved.

31Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice! Let them say among the nations, "The Lord reigns!"

32Let the sea roar, and its fullness! Let the field exult, and all that is therein!

33Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth.

34Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.

35Say, "Save us, God of our salvation! Gather us together and deliver us from the nations, to give thanks to your holy name, to triumph in your praise."

36Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting even to everlasting. All the people said, "Amen," and praised the Lord.

37So he left there, before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, Asaph and his brothers, to minister before the ark continually, as every day's work required;

38and Obed-Edom with their brothers, sixty-eight; Obed-Edom also the son of Jeduthun and Hosah to be doorkeepers;

39and Zadok the priest, and his brothers the priests, before the tabernacle of the Lord in the high place that was at Gibeon,

40to offer burnt offerings to the Lord on the altar of burnt offering continually morning and evening, even according to all that is written in the law of the Lord, which he commanded to Israel;

41and with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen, who were mentioned by name, to give thanks to the Lord, because his loving kindness endures forever;

42and with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should sound aloud, and with instruments for the songs of God; and the sons of Jeduthun to be at the gate.

43All the people departed every man to his house: and David returned to bless his house.

Romans 1

1Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, set apart for the Good News of God,

2which he promised before through his prophets in the holy Scriptures,

3concerning his Son, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh,

4who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,

5through whom we received grace and the office of apostle, for obedience of faith among all the nations, for his name's sake;

6among whom you are also called to belong to Jesus Christ;

7to all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, that your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world.

9For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the Good News of his Son, how unceasingly I make mention of you always in my prayers,

10requesting, if by any means now at last I may be prospered by the will of God to come to you.

11For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, to the end that you may be established;

12that is, that I with you may be encouraged in you, each of us by the other's faith, both yours and mine.

13Now I do not desire to have you unaware, brothers, that I often planned to come to you, and was hindered so far, that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among the rest of the Gentiles.

14I am debtor both to Greeks and to foreigners, both to the wise and to the foolish.

15So, as much as is in me, I am eager to proclaim the Good News to you also who are in Rome.

16For I am not ashamed of the Good News, for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes; for the Jew first, and also for the Greek.

17For in it is revealed God's righteousness from faith to faith. As it is written, "But the righteous shall live by faith."

18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

19because that which is known of God is revealed in them, for God revealed it to them.

20For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divine nature; that they may be without excuse.

21Because, knowing God, they did not glorify him as God, neither gave thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.

22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things.

24Therefore God also abandoned them in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves,

25who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26For this reason, God abandoned them to their degrading passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature.

27Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error.

28Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God abandoned them to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

29being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil habits, secret slanderers,

30backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, unmerciful;

32who, knowing the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.

Psalms 118

1Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.

2Let Israel now say that his loving kindness endures forever.

3Let the house of Aaron now say that his loving kindness endures forever.

4Now let those who fear the Lord say that his loving kindness endures forever.

5Out of my distress, I called on Yah. Yah answered me with freedom.

6The Lord is on my side. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

7The Lord is on my side among those who help me. Therefore I will look in triumph at those who hate me.

8It is better to take refuge in the Lord, than to put confidence in man.

9It is better to take refuge in the Lord, than to put confidence in princes.

10All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord, I cut them off.

11They surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me. In the name of the Lord I indeed cut them off.

12They surrounded me like bees. They are quenched like the burning thorns. In the name of the Lord I cut them off.

13You pushed me back hard, to make me fall, but the Lord helped me.

14Yah is my strength and song. He has become my salvation.

15The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous. "The right hand of the Lord does valiantly.

16The right hand of the Lord is exalted! The right hand of the Lord does valiantly!"

17I will not die, but live, and declare the works of Yah.

18Yah has punished me severely, but he has not given me over to death.

19Open to me the gates of righteousness. I will enter into them. I will give thanks to Yah.

20This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous will enter into it.

21I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me, and have become my salvation.

22The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.

23This is the Lord's doing. It is marvelous in our eyes.

24This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!

25Save us now, we beg you, Lord! Lord, we beg you, send prosperity now.

26Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! We have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.

27The Lord is God, and he has given us light. Bind the sacrifice with cords, even to the horns of the altar.

28You are my God, and I will give thanks to you. You are my God, I will exalt you.

29Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.

Proverbs 25

1These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

2It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.

3As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth, so the hearts of kings are unsearchable.

4Take away the dross from the silver, and material comes out for the refiner;

5Take away the wicked from the king's presence, and his throne will be established in righteousness.

6Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, or claim a place among great men;

7for it is better that it be said to you, "Come up here," than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom your eyes have seen.

8Do not be hasty in bringing charges to court. What will you do in the end when your neighbor shames you?

9Debate your case with your neighbor, and do not betray the confidence of another;

10lest one who hears it put you to shame, and your bad reputation never depart.

11A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.

12As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover to an obedient ear.

13As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to those who send him; for he refreshes the soul of his masters.

14As clouds and wind without rain, so is he who boasts of gifts deceptively.

15By patience a ruler is persuaded. A soft tongue breaks the bone.

16Have you found honey? Eat as much as is sufficient for you, lest you eat too much, and vomit it.

17Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he be weary of you, and hate you.

18A man who gives false testimony against his neighbor is like a club, a sword, or a sharp arrow.

19Confidence in someone unfaithful in time of trouble is like a bad tooth, or a lame foot.

20As one who takes away a garment in cold weather, or vinegar on soda, so is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.

21If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat. If he is thirsty, give him water to drink:

22for you will heap coals of fire on his head, and the Lord will reward you.

23The north wind brings forth rain: so a backbiting tongue brings an angry face.

24It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than to share a house with a contentious woman.

25Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

26Like a muddied spring, and a polluted well, so is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.

27It is not good to eat much honey; nor is it honorable to seek one's own honor.

28Like a city that is broken down and without walls is a man whose spirit is without restraint.
