Job 9
1Then Job answered,
2"Truly I know that it is so, but how can man be just with God?
3If he is pleased to contend with him, he can't answer him one time in a thousand.
4God who is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and prospered?
5He removes the mountains, and they do not know it, when he overturns them in his anger.
6He shakes the earth out of its place. Its pillars tremble.
7He commands the sun, and it doesn't rise, and seals up the stars.
8He alone stretches out the heavens, and treads on the waves of the sea.
9He makes the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.
10He does great things past finding out; yes, marvelous things without number.
11Behold, he goes by me, and I do not see him. He passes on also, but I do not perceive him.
12Behold, he snatches away. Who can hinder him? Who will ask him, 'What are you doing?'
13"God will not withdraw his anger. The helpers of Rahab stoop under him.
14How much less shall I answer him, And choose my words to argue with him?
15Though I were righteous, yet I wouldn't answer him. I would make supplication to my judge.
16If I had called, and he had answered me, yet I wouldn't believe that he listened to my voice.
17For he breaks me with a storm, and multiplies my wounds without cause.
18He will not allow me to catch my breath, but fills me with bitterness.
19If it is a matter of strength, behold, he is mighty! If of justice, 'Who,' says he, 'will summon me?'
20Though I am righteous, my own mouth shall condemn me. Though I am blameless, it shall prove me perverse.
21I am blameless. I do not regard myself. I despise my life.
22"It is all the same. Therefore I say he destroys the blameless and the wicked.
23If the scourge kills suddenly, he will mock at the trial of the innocent.
24The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of its judges. If not he, then who is it?
25"Now my days are swifter than a runner. They flee away, they see no good,
26They have passed away as the swift ships, as the eagle that swoops on the prey.
27If I say, 'I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face, and cheer up;'
28I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that you will not hold me innocent.
29I shall be condemned. Why then do I labor in vain?
30If I wash myself with snow, and cleanse my hands with lye,
31yet you will plunge me in the ditch. My own clothes shall abhor me.
32For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, that we should come together in judgment.
33There is no umpire between us, that might lay his hand on us both.
34Let him take his rod away from me. Let his terror not make me afraid;
35then I would speak, and not fear him, for I am not so in myself.
Job 10
1"My soul is weary of my life. I will give free course to my complaint. I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
2I will tell God, 'Do not condemn me. Show me why you contend with me.
3Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and smile on the counsel of the wicked?
4Do you have eyes of flesh? Or do you see as man sees?
5Are your days as the days of mortals, or your years as man's years,
6that you inquire after my iniquity, and search after my sin?
7Although you know that I am not wicked, there is no one who can deliver out of your hand.
8"'Your hands have framed me and fashioned me altogether, yet you destroy me.
9Remember, I beg you, that you have fashioned me as clay. Will you bring me into dust again?
10Haven't you poured me out like milk, and curdled me like cheese?
11You have clothed me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews.
12You have granted me life and loving kindness. Your visitation has preserved my spirit.
13Yet you hid these things in your heart. I know that this is with you:
14if I sin, then you mark me. You will not acquit me from my iniquity.
15If I am wicked, woe to me. If I am righteous, I still shall not lift up my head, being filled with disgrace, and conscious of my affliction.
16If my head is held high, you hunt me like a lion. Again you show yourself powerful to me.
17You renew your witnesses against me, and increase your indignation on me. Changes and warfare are with me.
18"'Why, then, have you brought me forth out of the womb? I wish I had given up the spirit, and no eye had seen me.
19I should have been as though I had not been. I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.
20Aren't my days few? Cease then. Leave me alone, that I may find a little comfort,
21before I go where I shall not return from, to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death;
22the land dark as midnight, of the shadow of death, without any order, where the light is as midnight.'"
Job 11
1Then Zophar, the Naamathite, answered,
2"Shouldn't the multitude of words be answered? Should a man full of talk be justified?
3Should your boastings make men hold their peace? When you mock, shall no man make you ashamed?
4For you say, 'My doctrine is pure. I am clean in your eyes.'
5But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you,
6that he would show you the secrets of wisdom! For true wisdom has two sides. Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves.
7"Can you fathom the mystery of God? Or can you probe the limits of the Almighty?
8They are high as heaven. What can you do? They are deeper than Sheol. What can you know?
9Its measure is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.
10If he passes by, or confines, or convenes a court, then who can oppose him?
11For he knows false men. He sees iniquity also, even though he doesn't consider it.
12An empty-headed man becomes wise when a man is born as a wild donkey's colt.
13"If you set your heart aright, stretch out your hands toward him.
14If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away. Do not let unrighteousness dwell in your tents.
15Surely then you shall lift up your face without spot; Yes, you shall be steadfast, and shall not fear:
16for you shall forget your misery. You shall remember it as waters that are passed away.
17Life shall be clearer than the noonday. Though there is darkness, it shall be as the morning.
18You shall be secure, because there is hope. Yes, you shall search, and shall take your rest in safety.
19Also you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid. Yes, many shall court your favor.
20But the eyes of the wicked shall fail. They shall have no way to flee. Their hope shall be the giving up of the spirit."
I Corinthians 16
1Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I commanded the churches of Galatia, you do likewise.
2On the first day of the week, let each one of you save, as he may prosper, that no collections be made when I come.
3When I arrive, I will send whoever you approve with letters to carry your gracious gift to Jerusalem.
4If it is appropriate for me to go also, they will go with me.
5But I will come to you when I have passed through Macedonia, for I am passing through Macedonia.
6But with you it may be that I will stay, or even winter, that you may send me on my journey wherever I go.
7For I do not wish to see you now in passing, but I hope to stay a while with you, if the Lord permits.
8But I will stay at Ephesus until Pentecost,
9for a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.
10Now if Timothy comes, see that he is with you without fear, for he does the work of the Lord, as I also do.
11Therefore let no one despise him. But set him forward on his journey in peace, that he may come to me; for I expect him with the brothers.
12Now concerning Apollos, the brother, I strongly urged him to come to you with the brothers; and it was not at all his desire to come now; but he will come when he has an opportunity.
13Watch! Stand firm in the faith! Be courageous! Be strong!
14Let all that you do be done in love.
15Now I beg you, brothers (you know the house of Stephanas, that it is the first fruits of Achaia, and that they have set themselves to serve the saints),
16that you also be in subjection to such, and to everyone who helps in the work and labors.
17I rejoice at the coming of Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus; for that which was lacking on your part, they supplied.
18For they refreshed my spirit and yours. Therefore acknowledge those who are like that.
19The churches of Asia greet you. Aquila and Priscilla greet you much in the Lord, together with the church that is in their house.
20All the brothers greet you. Greet one another with a holy kiss.
21This greeting is by me, Paul, with my own hand.
22If any man does not love the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed. Come, Lord!
23The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
24My love to all of you in Christ Jesus.
Psalms 149
1Praise Yah! Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the holy ones.
2Let Israel rejoice in him who made them. Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.
3Let them praise his name in the dance! Let them sing praises to him with tambourine and harp!
4For the Lord takes pleasure in his people. He crowns the humble with salvation.
5Let the holy ones rejoice in honor. Let them sing for joy on their beds.
6May the high praises of God be in their mouths, and a two-edged sword in their hand;
7To execute vengeance on the nations, and punishments on the peoples;
8To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;
9to execute on them the written judgment. All his holy ones have this honor. Praise Yah!
Proverbs 25
1These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
2It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.
3As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth, so the hearts of kings are unsearchable.
4Take away the dross from the silver, and material comes out for the refiner;
5Take away the wicked from the king's presence, and his throne will be established in righteousness.
6Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, or claim a place among great men;
7for it is better that it be said to you, "Come up here," than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom your eyes have seen.
8Do not be hasty in bringing charges to court. What will you do in the end when your neighbor shames you?
9Debate your case with your neighbor, and do not betray the confidence of another;
10lest one who hears it put you to shame, and your bad reputation never depart.
11A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.
12As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover to an obedient ear.
13As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to those who send him; for he refreshes the soul of his masters.
14As clouds and wind without rain, so is he who boasts of gifts deceptively.
15By patience a ruler is persuaded. A soft tongue breaks the bone.
16Have you found honey? Eat as much as is sufficient for you, lest you eat too much, and vomit it.
17Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he be weary of you, and hate you.
18A man who gives false testimony against his neighbor is like a club, a sword, or a sharp arrow.
19Confidence in someone unfaithful in time of trouble is like a bad tooth, or a lame foot.
20As one who takes away a garment in cold weather, or vinegar on soda, so is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.
21If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat. If he is thirsty, give him water to drink:
22for you will heap coals of fire on his head, and the Lord will reward you.
23The north wind brings forth rain: so a backbiting tongue brings an angry face.
24It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than to share a house with a contentious woman.
25Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
26Like a muddied spring, and a polluted well, so is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.
27It is not good to eat much honey; nor is it honorable to seek one's own honor.
28Like a city that is broken down and without walls is a man whose spirit is without restraint.
