Exodus 5-7Matthew 19Psalms 19Proverbs 19

Exodus 5

Afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said to Pharaoh, "This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says, 'Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.'"

Pharaoh said, "Who is the Lord, that I should listen to his voice to let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, and moreover I will not let Israel go."

They said, "The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please let us go three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the Lord, our God, lest he fall on us with pestilence, or with the sword."

The king of Egypt said to them, "Why do you, Moses and Aaron, separate the people from their work? Get back to your burdens!"

Pharaoh said, "Behold, the people of the land are now many, and you make them rest from their burdens."

The same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,

"You shall no longer give the people straw to make brick, as before. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.

The number of the bricks, which they made before, you require from them. You shall not diminish anything of it, for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, 'Let us go and sacrifice to our God.'

Let heavier work be laid on the men, that they may regard it; and do not let them regard lying words."

The taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spoke to the people, saying, This is what Pharaoh says: "I will not give you straw.

Go yourselves, get straw where you can find it, for nothing of your work shall be diminished."

So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw.

The taskmasters were urgent saying, "Fulfill your work quota daily, as when there was straw given to you!"

The officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, "Why haven't you fulfilled your quota both yesterday and today, in making brick as before?"

Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried to Pharaoh, saying, "Why do you deal this way with your servants?

No straw is given to your servants, and they tell us, 'Make brick!' and behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in your own people."

But he said, "You are idle! You are idle! Therefore you say, 'Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord.'

Go therefore now, and work, for no straw shall be given to you, yet you shall deliver the same number of bricks!"

The officers of the children of Israel saw that they were in trouble, when it was said, "You shall not diminish anything from your daily quota of bricks!"

They met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:

and they said to them, "May the Lord look at you, and judge, because you have made us a stench to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us."

Moses returned to the Lord, and said, "Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Why is it that you have sent me?

For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people; neither have you delivered your people at all."

Exodus 6

The Lord said to Moses, "Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh, for by a strong hand he shall let them go, and by a strong hand he shall drive them out of his land."

God spoke to Moses, and said to him, "I am the Lord;

and I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty; but by my name the Lord I was not known to them.

I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their travels, in which they lived as foreigners.

Moreover I have heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage, and I have remembered my covenant.

Therefore tell the children of Israel, 'I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm, and with great judgments:

and I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God; and you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it to you for a heritage: I am the Lord.'"

Moses spoke so to the children of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage.

The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

"Go in, speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land."

Moses spoke before the Lord, saying, "Behold, the children of Israel haven't listened to me. How then shall Pharaoh listen to me, who am of uncircumcised lips?"

The Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, and gave them a command to the children of Israel, and to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.

These are that Aaron and Moses, to whom the Lord said, "Bring out the children of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their armies."

These are those who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the children of Israel from Egypt. These are that Moses and Aaron.

It happened on the day when the Lord spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt,

that the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, "I am the Lord. Speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I speak to you."

Moses said before the Lord, "Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh listen to me?"

Exodus 7

The Lord said to Moses, "Behold, I have made you as God to Pharaoh; and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet.

You shall speak all that I command you; and Aaron your brother shall speak to Pharaoh, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.

I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.

But Pharaoh will not listen to you, and I will lay my hand on Egypt, and bring forth my armies, my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.

The Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch forth my hand on Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them."

Moses and Aaron did so. As the Lord commanded them, so they did.

Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.

The Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

"When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, 'Perform a miracle!' then you shall tell Aaron, 'Take your rod, and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it become a serpent.'"

Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, as the Lord had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.

Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers. They also, the magicians of Egypt, did in like manner with their enchantments.

For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods.

Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them; as the Lord had spoken.

The Lord said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is stubborn. He refuses to let the people go.

Go to Pharaoh in the morning. Behold, he goes out to the water; and you shall stand by the river's bank to meet him; and the rod which was turned to a serpent you shall take in your hand.

You shall tell him, 'The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to you, saying, "Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness:" and behold, until now you haven't listened.

Thus says the Lord, "In this you shall know that I am the Lord. Behold, I will strike with the rod that is in my hand on the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.

The fish that are in the river shall die, and the river shall become foul; and the Egyptians shall loathe to drink water from the river."'"

The Lord said to Moses, "Tell Aaron, 'Take your rod, and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their streams, and over their pools, and over all their ponds of water, that they may become blood; and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.'"

Moses and Aaron did so, as the Lord commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and struck the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.

The fish that were in the river died; and the river became foul, and the Egyptians couldn't drink water from the river; and the blood was throughout all the land of Egypt.

The magicians of Egypt did in like manner with their enchantments; and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them; as the Lord had spoken.

Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he lay even this to heart.

All the Egyptians dug around the river for water to drink; for they couldn't drink of the water of the river.

Seven days were fulfilled, after the Lord had struck the river.

Matthew 19

It happened when Jesus had finished these words, he departed from Galilee, and came into the borders of Judea beyond the Jordan.

Great multitudes followed him, and he healed them there.

The Pharisees came, testing him, and saying, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?"

He answered, and said, "Have not you read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female,

and said, 'For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall join to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh?'

So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, do not let man tear apart."

They asked him, "Why then did Moses command us to give her a certificate of divorce, and divorce her?"

He said to them, "Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it has not been so.

I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery."

The disciples said to him, "If this is the case of the man with his wife, it is not expedient to marry."

But he said to them, "Not all men can receive this saying, but those to whom it is given.

For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven's sake. He who is able to receive it, let him receive it."

Then little children were brought to him, that he should lay his hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them.

But Jesus said, "Allow the little children, and do not forbid them to come to me; for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to ones like these."

He placed his hands on them, and departed from there.

Behold, one came to him and said, "Teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?"

He said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? No one is good but one. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."

He said to him, "Which ones?" Jesus said, "'You shall not murder.' 'You shall not commit adultery.' 'You shall not steal.' 'You shall not offer false testimony.'

'Honor your father and mother.' And, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"

The young man said to him, "All these things I have observed. What do I still lack?"

Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."

But when the young man heard the saying, he went away sad, for he was one who had great possessions.

Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly I say to you, a rich man will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven with difficulty.

Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God."

When the disciples heard it, they were exceedingly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?"

Looking at them, Jesus said, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

Then Peter answered, "Behold, we have left everything, and followed you. What then will we have?"

Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you that you who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on the throne of his glory, you also will sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Everyone who has left houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, will receive one hundred times, and will inherit eternal life.

But many will be last who are first; and first who are last.

Psalms 19

The heavens declare the glory of God. The expanse shows his handiwork.

Day after day they pour forth speech, and night after night they display knowledge.

There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.

Their voice has gone out through all the earth, their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun,

which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a strong man rejoicing to run his course.

His going forth is from the end of the heavens, his circuit to its ends; There is nothing hidden from its heat.

The Lord's Law is perfect, restoring the soul. The Lord's testimony is sure, making wise the simple.

The Lord's precepts are right, rejoicing the heart. The Lord's commandment is pure, enlightening the eyes.

The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The Lord's ordinances are true, and righteous altogether.

More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the extract of the honeycomb.

Moreover by them is your servant warned. In keeping them there is great reward.

Who can discern his errors? Forgive me from hidden errors.

Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins. Let them not have dominion over me. Then I will be upright. I will be blameless and innocent of great transgression.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, Lord, my rock, and my redeemer.

Proverbs 19

Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool.

It isn't good to have zeal without knowledge; nor being hasty with one's feet and missing the way.

The foolishness of man subverts his way; his heart rages against the Lord.

Wealth adds many friends, but the poor is separated from his friend.

A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who pours out lies shall not go free.

Many will entreat the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts.

All the relatives of the poor shun him: how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with pleas, but they are gone.

He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good.

A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who utters lies shall perish.

Delicate living is not appropriate for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes.

The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense.

The king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.

A foolish son is the calamity of his father. A wife's quarrels are a continual dripping.

House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.

Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger.

He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die.

He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord; he will reward him.

Discipline your son, for there is hope; do not be a willing party to his death.

A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again.

Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.

There are many plans in a man's heart, but the Lord's counsel will prevail.

That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness. A poor man is better than a liar.

The fear of the Lord leads to life, then contentment; he rests and will not be touched by trouble.

The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.

He who robs his father and drives away his mother, is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.

If you stop listening to instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.

A corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity.

Penalties are prepared for scoffers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
