📖 Passages

Leviticus 7-9Mark 5Psalms 33Proverbs 2

Leviticus 7

1"'This is the law of the trespass offering. It is most holy.

2In the place where they kill the burnt offering, he shall kill the trespass offering; and its blood he shall sprinkle around on the altar.

3He shall offer all of its fat: the fat tail, and the fat that covers the innards,

4and the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, which is by the loins, and the cover on the liver, with the kidneys, shall he take away;

5and the priest shall burn them on the altar for an offering made by fire to the Lord: it is a trespass offering.

6Every male among the priests may eat of it. It shall be eaten in a holy place. It is most holy.

7"'As is the sin offering, so is the trespass offering; there is one law for them. The priest who makes atonement with them shall have it.

8The priest who offers any man's burnt offering, even the priest shall have for himself the skin of the burnt offering which he has offered.

9Every meal offering that is baked in the oven, and all that is dressed in the pan, and on the griddle, shall be the priest's who offers it.

10Every meal offering, mixed with oil or dry, belongs to all the sons of Aaron, one as well as another.

11"'This is the law of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which one shall offer to the Lord.

12If he offers it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer with the sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil, and cakes mixed with oil.

13With cakes of leavened bread he shall offer his offering with the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving.

14Of it he shall offer one out of each offering for a heave offering to the Lord. It shall be the priest's who sprinkles the blood of the peace offerings.

15The flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten on the day of his offering. He shall not leave any of it until the morning.

16"'But if the sacrifice of his offering is a vow, or a freewill offering, it shall be eaten on the day that he offers his sacrifice; and on the next day what remains of it shall be eaten:

17but what remains of the flesh of the sacrifice on the third day shall be burned with fire.

18If any of the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings is eaten on the third day, it will not be accepted, neither shall it be imputed to him who offers it. It will be an abomination, and the soul who eats any of it will bear his iniquity.

19"'The flesh that touches any unclean thing shall not be eaten. It shall be burned with fire. As for the flesh, everyone who is clean may eat it;

20but the soul who eats of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, that belongs to the Lord, having his uncleanness on him, that soul shall be cut off from his people.

21When anyone touches any unclean thing, the uncleanness of man, or an unclean animal, or any unclean abomination, and eats some of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which belong to the Lord, that soul shall be cut off from his people.'"

22The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

23"Speak to the children of Israel, saying, 'You shall eat no fat, of bull, or sheep, or goat.

24The fat of that which dies of itself, and the fat of that which is torn of animals, may be used for any other service, but you shall in no way eat of it.

25For whoever eats the fat of the animal, of which men offer an offering made by fire to the Lord, even the soul who eats it shall be cut off from his people.

26You shall not eat any blood, whether it is of bird or of animal, in any of your dwellings.

27Whoever it is who eats any blood, that soul shall be cut off from his people.'"

28The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

29"Speak to the children of Israel, saying, 'He who offers the sacrifice of his peace offerings to the Lord shall bring his offering to the Lord out of the sacrifice of his peace offerings.

30With his own hands he shall bring the offerings of the Lord made by fire. He shall bring the fat with the breast, that the breast may be waved for a wave offering before the Lord.

31The priest shall burn the fat on the altar, but the breast shall be Aaron's and his sons'.

32The right thigh you shall give to the priest for a heave offering out of the sacrifices of your peace offerings.

33He among the sons of Aaron who offers the blood of the peace offerings, and the fat, shall have the right thigh for a portion.

34For the waved breast and the heaved thigh I have taken from the children of Israel out of the sacrifices of their peace offerings, and have given them to Aaron the priest and to his sons as their portion forever from the children of Israel.'"

35This is the anointing portion of Aaron, and the anointing portion of his sons, out of the offerings of the Lord made by fire, in the day when he presented them to minister to the Lord in the priest's office;

36which the Lord commanded to be given them of the children of Israel, in the day that he anointed them. It is their portion forever throughout their generations.

37This is the law of the burnt offering, of the meal offering, and of the sin offering, and of the trespass offering, and of the consecration, and of the sacrifice of peace offerings;

38which the Lord commanded Moses in Mount Sinai, in the day that he commanded the children of Israel to offer their offerings to the Lord, in the wilderness of Sinai.

Leviticus 8

1The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

2"Take Aaron and his sons with him, and the garments, and the anointing oil, and the bull of the sin offering, and the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread;

3and assemble all the congregation at the door of the Tent of Meeting."

4Moses did as the Lord commanded him; and the congregation was assembled at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

5Moses said to the congregation, "This is the thing which the Lord has commanded to be done."

6Moses brought Aaron and his sons, and washed them with water.

7He put the coat on him, tied the sash on him, clothed him with the robe, put the ephod on him, and he tied the skillfully woven band of the ephod on him, and fastened it to him with it.

8He placed the breastplate on him; and in the breastplate he put the Urim and the Thummim.

9He set the turban on his head; and on the turban, in front, he set the golden plate, the holy crown; as the Lord commanded Moses.

10Moses took the anointing oil, and anointed the tabernacle and all that was in it, and sanctified them.

11He sprinkled it on the altar seven times, and anointed the altar and all its vessels, and the basin and its base, to sanctify them.

12He poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron's head, and anointed him, to sanctify him.

13Moses brought Aaron's sons, and clothed them with coats, and tied sashes on them, and put headbands on them; as the Lord commanded Moses.

14He brought the bull of the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the bull of the sin offering.

15He killed it; and Moses took the blood, and put it around on the horns of the altar with his finger, and purified the altar, and poured out the blood at the base of the altar, and sanctified it, to make atonement for it.

16He took all the fat that was on the innards, and the cover of the liver, and the two kidneys, and their fat; and Moses burned it on the altar.

17But the bull, and its skin, and its flesh, and its dung, he burned with fire outside the camp; as the Lord commanded Moses.

18He presented the ram of the burnt offering: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram.

19He killed it; and Moses sprinkled the blood around on the altar.

20He cut the ram into its pieces; and Moses burned the head, and the pieces, and the fat.

21He washed the innards and the legs with water; and Moses burned the whole ram on the altar. It was a burnt offering for a pleasant aroma. It was an offering made by fire to the Lord; as the Lord commanded Moses.

22He presented the other ram, the ram of consecration: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram.

23He killed it; and Moses took some of its blood, and put it on the tip of Aaron's right ear, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the great toe of his right foot.

24He brought Aaron's sons; and Moses put some of the blood on the tip of their right ear, and on the thumb of their right hand, and on the great toe of their right foot; and Moses sprinkled the blood around on the altar.

25He took the fat, and the fat tail, and all the fat that was on the innards, and the cover of the liver, and the two kidneys, and their fat, and the right thigh;

26and out of the basket of unleavened bread, that was before the Lord, he took one unleavened cake, and one cake of oiled bread, and one wafer, and placed them on the fat, and on the right thigh.

27He put all these in Aaron's hands and in his sons' hands, and waved them for a wave offering before the Lord.

28Moses took them from their hands, and burned them on the altar on the burnt offering. They were a consecration for a pleasant aroma. It was an offering made by fire to the Lord.

29Moses took the breast, and waved it for a wave offering before the Lord. It was Moses' portion of the ram of consecration, as the Lord commanded Moses.

30Moses took some of the anointing oil, and some of the blood which was on the altar, and sprinkled it on Aaron, on his garments, and on his sons, and on his sons' garments with him, and sanctified Aaron, his garments, and his sons, and his sons' garments with him.

31Moses said to Aaron and to his sons, "Boil the flesh at the door of the Tent of Meeting, and there eat it and the bread that is in the basket of consecration, as I commanded, saying, 'Aaron and his sons shall eat it.'

32What remains of the flesh and of the bread you shall burn with fire.

33You shall not go out from the door of the Tent of Meeting seven days, until the days of your consecration are fulfilled: for he shall consecrate you seven days.

34What has been done this day, so the Lord has commanded to do, to make atonement for you.

35You shall stay at the door of the Tent of Meeting day and night seven days, and keep the Lord's command, that you do not die: for so I am commanded."

36Aaron and his sons did all the things which the Lord commanded by Moses.

Leviticus 9

1It happened on the eighth day, that Moses called Aaron and his sons, and the elders of Israel;

2and he said to Aaron, "Take a calf from the herd for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering, without blemish, and offer them before the Lord.

3You shall speak to the children of Israel, saying, 'Take a male goat for a sin offering; and a calf and a lamb, both a year old, without blemish, for a burnt offering;

4and a bull and a ram for peace offerings, to sacrifice before the Lord; and a meal offering mixed with oil: for today the Lord appears to you.'"

5They brought what Moses commanded before the Tent of Meeting: and all the congregation drew near and stood before the Lord.

6Moses said, "This is the thing which the Lord commanded that you should do: and the glory of the Lord shall appear to you."

7Moses said to Aaron, "Draw near to the altar, and offer your sin offering, and your burnt offering, and make atonement for yourself, and for the people; and offer the offering of the people, and make atonement for them; as the Lord commanded."

8So Aaron drew near to the altar, and killed the calf of the sin offering, which was for himself.

9The sons of Aaron presented the blood to him; and he dipped his finger in the blood, and put it on the horns of the altar, and poured out the blood at the base of the altar:

10but the fat, and the kidneys, and the cover from the liver of the sin offering, he burned upon the altar; as the Lord commanded Moses.

11The flesh and the skin he burned with fire outside the camp.

12He killed the burnt offering; and Aaron's sons delivered the blood to him, and he sprinkled it around on the altar.

13They delivered the burnt offering to him, piece by piece, and the head: and he burned them upon the altar.

14He washed the innards and the legs, and burned them on the burnt offering on the altar.

15He presented the people's offering, and took the goat of the sin offering which was for the people, and killed it, and offered it for sin, like the first.

16He presented the burnt offering, and offered it according to the ordinance.

17He presented the meal offering, and filled his hand from there, and burned it upon the altar, besides the burnt offering of the morning.

18He also killed the bull and the ram, the sacrifice of peace offerings, which was for the people: and Aaron's sons delivered to him the blood, which he sprinkled around on the altar,

19and the fat of the bull and of the ram, the fat tail, and that which covers the innards, and the kidneys, and the cover of the liver:

20and they put the fat upon the breasts, and he burned the fat on the altar:

21and the breasts and the right thigh Aaron waved for a wave offering before the Lord, as Moses commanded.

22Aaron lifted up his hands toward the people, and blessed them; and he came down from offering the sin offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings.

23Moses and Aaron went into the Tent of Meeting, and came out, and blessed the people: and the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people.

24There came forth fire from before the Lord, and consumed the burnt offering and the fat upon the altar: and when all the people saw it, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

Mark 5

1They came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasenes.

2When he had come out of the boat, immediately a man with an unclean spirit met him out of the tombs.

3He lived in the tombs. And no one could bind him any more, not even with chains,

4because he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him, and the fetters broken in pieces. No one had the strength to tame him.

5Always, night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying out, and cutting himself with stones.

6When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and bowed down to him,

7and crying out with a loud voice, he said, "What have I to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me."

8For he said to him, "Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!"

9Then he asked him, "What is your name?" He replied, "My name is Legion, for we are many."

10And he begged him much that he would not send them away out of the region.

11Now on the mountainside there was a great herd of pigs feeding.

12They begged him, saying, "Send us into the pigs, that we may enter into them."

13He gave them permission. The unclean spirits came out and entered into the pigs. The herd of about two thousand rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and they were drowned in the sea.

14Those who fed them fled, and told it in the city and in the country. The people came out to see what it was that had happened.

15They came to Jesus, and saw him who had been possessed by demons sitting, clothed, and in his right mind, even him who had the legion; and they were afraid.

16And those who saw it declared to them how it happened to him who was possessed by demons, and about the pigs.

17Then they began to beg him to depart from their region.

18As he was entering into the boat, he who had been possessed by demons begged him that he might be with him.

19And he did not allow him, but said to him, "Go to your house, to your own, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how he had mercy on you."

20So he went his way, and began to proclaim in Decapolis how Jesus had done great things for him, and everyone marveled.

21And when Jesus had crossed back over in the boat to the other side, a great multitude was gathered to him; and he was by the sea.

22One of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, came; and seeing him, he fell at his feet,

23and begged him much, saying, "My little daughter is at the point of death. Please come and lay your hands on her, that she may be made healthy, and live."

24And he went with him, and a great multitude followed him, and they pressed upon him on all sides.

25Now a woman, who had an issue of blood for twelve years,

26and had suffered many things by many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better, but rather grew worse,

27having heard the things concerning Jesus, came up behind him in the crowd, and touched his clothes.

28For she said, "If I just touch his clothes, I will be made well."

29And immediately the flow of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.

30And immediately Jesus, perceiving in himself that the power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd, and asked, "Who touched my clothes?"

31And his disciples said to him, "You see the multitude pressing against you, and you say, 'Who touched me?'"

32He looked around to see her who had done this thing.

33But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done to her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

34And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be cured of your disease."

35While he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue ruler's house saying, "Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher any more?"

36But Jesus, overhearing the message spoken, said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Do not be afraid, only believe."

37He allowed no one to follow him, except Peter, Jacob, and John the brother of Jacob.

38And they came to the synagogue ruler's house, and he saw an uproar, weeping, and great wailing.

39When he had entered in, he said to them, "Why do you make an uproar and weep? The child is not dead, but is asleep.

40And they ridiculed him. But he, having put them all out, took the father of the child, her mother, and those who were with him, and went in where the child was.

41Taking the child by the hand, he said to her, "Talitha koum!" which means, being interpreted, "Girl, I tell you, get up!"

42And immediately the girl rose up and walked, for she was twelve years old. They were amazed with great amazement.

43And he strictly ordered them that no one should know this, and commanded that something should be given to her to eat.

Psalms 33

1Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous! Praise is fitting for the upright.

2Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre. Sing praises to him with the harp of ten strings.

3Sing to him a new song. Play skillfully with a shout of joy!

4For the word of the Lord is right. All his work is done in faithfulness.

5He loves righteousness and justice. The earth is full of the loving kindness of the Lord.

6By the Lord's word, the heavens were made; all their army by the breath of his mouth.

7He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap. He lays up the deeps in storehouses.

8Let all the earth fear the Lord. Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

9For he spoke, and it was done. He commanded, and it stood firm.

10The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing. He makes the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.

11The counsel of the Lord stands fast forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

12Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.

13The Lord looks from heaven. He sees all the sons of men.

14From the place of his habitation he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth,

15he who fashions all of their hearts; and he considers all of their works.

16There is no king saved by the multitude of an army. A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.

17A horse is a vain thing for safety, neither does he deliver any by his great power.

18Behold, the Lord's eye is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his loving kindness;

19to deliver their soul from death, to keep them alive in famine.

20Our soul has waited for the Lord. He is our help and our shield.

21For our heart rejoices in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.

22Let your loving kindness be on us, Lord, since we have hoped in you.

Proverbs 2

1My son, if you will receive my words, and store up my commandments within you;

2So as to turn your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding;

3Yes, if you call out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding;

4If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures:

5then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

6For the Lord gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

7He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity;

8that he may guard the paths of justice, and preserve the way of his holy ones.

9Then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path.

10For wisdom will enter into your heart. Knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.

11Discretion will watch over you. Understanding will keep you,

12to deliver you from the way of evil, from the men who speak perverse things;

13who forsake the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

14who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the perverseness of evil;

15who are crooked in their ways, and wayward in their paths:

16To deliver you from the strange woman, even from the foreigner who flatters with her words;

17who forsakes the friend of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God:

18for her house leads down to death, her paths to the dead.

19None who go to her return again, neither do they attain to the paths of life:

20that you may walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

21For the upright will dwell in the land. The perfect will remain in it.

22But the wicked will be cut off from the land. The treacherous will be rooted out of it.
